It once served as a renowned spa hotel that provided a safe place for famed personalities, Marlene Dietrich, Marika Rökk, and Harry Piel, after filming wrapped for UFA shoots in Babelsberg. After many renovations, it now stands as an exceptional restaurant and wedding venue in Germany.
The space itself includes the vintage-esque villa with many rooms and halls for getting ready or hosting a ceremony and reception. It’s set against a romantic lakeside backdrop, with 7,000 square meters of untouched nature, several additional houses, and an enchanting ruin. It truly couldn’t get much better than this.
The venue space is often praised for its quiet, peaceful atmosphere as well as the kind, attentive staff that is extremely accommodating and easy to work with.

A Natureside Paradise to Say “I Do”
When Thao and Leon were planning their wedding, they wanted a venue set in the natural beauty of the outdoors without being too far from Berlin. Gut Schloss Golm in Potsdam stood out for its villa and surrounding gardens—there was something about the property that reminded them of the romantic villas around Lake Como. The elegant architecture, lush gardens, and waterfront setting create that same feeling of being somewhere far away and idyllic.
For their wedding day, the ceremony took place directly beside the lake, surrounded by trees and greenery. It was a quiet, intimate setting as the couple exchanged their vows, with their loved ones gathered around them.
After the ceremony, everyone made their way from the lakeside to the garden, where the couple took time to personally greet and thank each of their guests. With 54 people there to celebrate with them, Thao and Leon had a chance to slow down and share a moment with each person who had come to be part of their day.
A Beautiful Setting for the Whole Wedding Day
Gut Schloss Golm gives couples plenty of room to let their wedding day unfold naturally, with different areas for gathering, dining, and celebrating. For Thao and Leon, the venue was set up with several welcoming spaces throughout the garden and villa, allowing their guests to move easily from one part of the celebration to the next.
The couple chose a beautiful lavender color palette for their wedding, adding a soft, romantic touch to the natural surroundings. After the ceremony, guests gathered in the garden for welcome drinks and to congratulate the couple, while other areas were set up for gifts, cake, and coffee.
For the reception, the venue arranged several round tables with beautifully decorated centerpieces, so everyone could sit together for dinner. The venue was just right, making the celebration feel lively and connected without losing the day's intimate feeling.
One of my favorite things about Gut Schloss Golm is the way the villa and garden are positioned toward the west. As the afternoon turns into evening, the light begins to soften over the grounds, creating some of the most beautiful sunset backdrops in Germany, and the ideal lighting for your wedding photographs.

Gut Schloss Golm in Potsdam isn’t just a beautiful venue to say “I do”; it’s also a one-of-a-kind space to take photos that perfectly reflect the day. For Thao and Leon, there were several photo opportunities throughout the estate:
In front of the villa, you'll find a beautiful oriental pond surrounded by gardens filled with different flowers, as well as a stunning staircase. The combination of the villa's architecture and the greenery makes this a lovely spot for portraits, especially if you want some photographs that feel more elegant and editorial.
Behind the villa, the lake is visible, with a spacious garden and trees lining the area for photos, all set amid nature. It's a beautiful area for photographs that feel a little more relaxed, whether you're taking a few portraits together or simply walking and enjoying a quiet moment away from your guests.
The waterfront viewing point features a rotating staircase that is ideal for posing or candid shots. It's also one of those places where you can let the surroundings do most of the work and simply focus on each other.
And then there's the interior of the villa, which offers something completely different. The rooms are furnished with vintage pieces and ornate decorations, bringing a sense of history and character to the photographs. One of them is the venue's opening time. Gut Schloss Golm opens from 13:00, which is important to keep in mind if you’d like to get ready on the grounds before the ceremony. If you are planning a later ceremony, you may still have time to get to Gut Schloss Golm and prepare, but if it’s cutting it close to 13:00, you may want to plan accordingly and get ready at a nearby hotel. Thao and Leon used Landhotel Potsdam as their getting-ready spot before heading to the ceremony. The hotel is about a 5-minute drive from the venue, which makes the transition relatively easy if you know the timing in advance. Another thing to keep in mind is how to get to the venue. The villa and gardens are just outside the center of Potsdam, but that doesn't mean you need a car to get there. It's accessible by public transportation in around 15 minutes from the city center, followed by a pleasant 15-minute walk. For guests coming from Berlin or staying in Potsdam, Gut Schloss Golm is a relatively convenient option while still giving you that peaceful countryside feeling once you arrive.
